They painting the inside of our home…and then went the extra mile by painting a few things on the exterior that badly needed repainting.

Bill is really friendly, professional and on it. He has a great eye for color and helped us select the perfect interior paint color. He was a joy to work with. His crew has been with him for ages, which says a lot about the work ethic of this business. Other contractors have come by as we are getting work done on the home, and have complimented the job. Quick, easy, a good experience all in all.

Pacific West Painting did a wonderful job of painting the exterior of our home! Bill came out surveyed the exterior and explained everything to me, within two days we had our quote. When his crew came to start the job they were polite and very careful with plants and patio furniture, either covering them with a tarp or moving them out of the way. During the prep work, they discovered a couple of very rotted trim boards and replaced them at a very reasonable price. When the job was completed everything was put back in place and cleaned up, you would have never known we had work done, except for the color change on the house! I would not hesitate to refer Pacific West Painting to friends or family!

Painter’s Tip: Caulking Exterior Wood Surfaces. Where and Why.

When painting exterior wood, some painters recommend caulking to keep moisture out of the wood, others say you should leave gaps to allow the house to breathe. Which is correct?

Both ideas are correct.

Since moisture is the culprit in many cases of exterior peeling, it’s important to use a good quality acrylic caulk to fill gaps around windows and doors, joints in siding and trim boards, and anywhere moisture could get into the end-grain wood. However, you also need to make sure that moisture generated inside the house has a way to escape. The best way to allow a house to breathe is with gable, roof, and eave vents.

If you are correcting an existing moisture related peeling problem, you may also need to install siding wedges or vents to give the moisture an easier path of escape than through the paint film.

It’s not advisable to caulk where the siding overlaps, as it could trap moisture behind the paint, causing it to peel.

Pacific West Painting just completed painting of all wood surfaces on the house (including a large arbor) plus our metal fence and gates. They were nothing short of outstanding. Bill made several good suggestions when discussing the job. The contract spelled out exactly what was to be done. The crew was efficient, polite, and hard working. They left all work areas very clean. ]

The house and fence now look absolutely beautiful!

Bill and his crew are the best!! They made all the necessary repairs to our wooden patio cover and did a wonderful prep job on the entire house. His painters were very professional and paid attention to the smallest detail. And they cleaned up everyday before leaving. A real pleasure working with them.

We had nothing but excellent experiences dealing with Pacific West Painting! The owner/sales representative, Bill Dumond provided knowledgeable and comprehensive info in reviewing the job before he submitted his detailed proposal (we had two competing proposals for the job.) The job foreman and all of the workers seemed to really be dedicated to the work and making sure that we were satisfied with what they were doing throughout the time on the job. Their attention to detail and the final look of the job was clearly the best of all painting contractors we have had over the years. Bill made a final visual review of the entire job with us to insure our complete satisfaction with the work. We highly recommend Pacific West!

My elderly mother moved into an assisted living facility & her home of 40 years had to be cleared out & prepped for rental. I called Bill Dumond of Pacific West Painting to come out to the house to give me an estimate for prep & painting of the entire interior. I live 75 miles away & there was a considerable amount of prep work required, so I had Bill walk from room to room while on the phone, so I could tell him everything I wanted done. Bill advised me to have a coat of oil based primer put on all interior surfaces, because my mother was a smoker & the tars could leach through a water base paint. After we went over everything, Bill gave me the quote & it was about the same total cost as another painter’s estimate. But Bill’s estimate included the additional oil base primer and significant more prep work than the other guy. At first he said he couldn’t schedule me in for about a month, but to accommodate me, he was able to shift some things around and start in about 2 days, so I gave him the job. We were also having the floors replaced & Bill was able to coordinate with the flooring guy to do all the prep & paint work before the floors were installed, then come back & paint the base boards after they were installed. Throughout the job, Bill called me about any details that were unclear, so there were no misunderstandings. We discussed things like which doorknobs, drawer pulls, towel racks, toilet paper holders, etc to keep & which to toss. It was refreshing to work with someone who actually communicates with you! Thanks to Bill, the house was completely prepped, painted & the floors installed in about 9 days.

The end result was an amazing transformation from an old, tired interior, lost in the 70’s to a beautiful, modern home, anybody would be proud of. I highly recommend Pacific West Painting for a job well done. All in all, it was a big job, done right, on time & for a very good price. If you want good work, honesty & excellent communications, Bill is your guy.

Description Of Work:
Prep & paint the entire interior of a 40 year old house. The prep work included removal of paneling, pegboard, mirrors & wallpaper borders in 2 bedrooms, a mirrored wall & frame around a sliding door in the master bedroom, removal of various trim pieces & change out others, fill in grooves in living room paneling, remove popcorn ceilings in 2 bedrooms, closets in hallway & master bedroom. Many walls & ceiling surfaces had to be patched, sanded & a light orange peel texture applied. After all prep work & texture was completed, a coat of oil base primer was applied to all interior surfaces. This was followed by 2 coats of latex paint, flat for common walls, eggshell for kitchen & bathrooms and semi-gloss for cabinets, baseboards, doors, window sills, heater vents, trim & hutch.
